Opticians in Nassau County, NY
Every licensed optician at Spectacular Eyewear has been fitting eyeglasses on Long Island for decades. We're not a chain. We're a locally owned optical boutique at 436 Woodbury Road in Plainview where every frame is selected by hand, every lens is measured to your face, and every fitting is done by a NYS Licensed Optician with real experience.
What Our Opticians Do
An optician does more than help you pick frames. Our team handles precision measurements, face-shape analysis, lens selection, frame adjustments, and repairs. Every pair of glasses that leaves our shop has been fitted, verified, and adjusted by a licensed professional. Here's what that looks like in practice:
Frame Fitting and Styling
We measure your face, consider your prescription strength, and factor in your daily routine before recommending frames. Whether you need something for the office, the weekend, or both, the fit matters as much as the look.
Contact Lens Fitting
Our opticians handle contact lens insertion and removal training, and work with our optometrist on fittings for dailies, multifocals, and specialty lenses for astigmatism and irregular corneas.
Custom Lens Crafting
We edge lenses in-house on professional equipment. That means faster turnaround, tighter quality control, and lenses cut to your exact frame and prescription. Progressive, bifocal, single vision, blue light, anti-reflective.
Eyeglass Repair
Broken hinge, loose screw, cracked nose pad, bent frame. Most repairs are done the same day. Walk in during store hours and we'll take a look on the spot.
Petite Frame Fitting
Standard frames don't work for smaller faces. We carry one of Long Island's largest petite eyewear selections and our opticians specialize in getting the fit right so frames don't slide, pinch, or look oversized.
Neurolens
If you deal with headaches, eye strain, or neck tension from screen time, Neurolens may help. Our opticians measure your eye alignment and fit lenses designed to reduce the symptoms most people just live with.
Designer Frames You Won't Find at Chain Stores
We carry over a dozen boutique and independent frame lines from around the world. Our owner Jodie Feist travels to eyewear shows in New York and Europe to find designers that nobody else on Long Island carries. The result is a collection that looks nothing like what you'll see at LensCrafters or Costco.
Styles range from bold Italian acetates to featherweight titanium frames under 10 grams. If you have a smaller face, we carry one of Long Island's largest selections of petite eyeglasses. For kids, we stock durable children's frames built to handle daily wear.

Eye Exams with Our Optometrist
Our optometrist Dr. Karen Perekalsky provides full vision and eye health exams at our Plainview office. That includes screenings for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and dry eye. Once your prescription is set, our opticians take over to help you find the right frames and lenses.
If your child's vision is getting worse each year, ask about myopia management for kids.
Fittings That Take Your Whole Life Into Account
A pair of glasses that works at your desk might not work when you're driving at night or playing tennis on the weekend. Our opticians ask about your daily routine, your screen time, your hobbies, and your frustrations with past pairs before recommending anything. That's how you end up with glasses you actually want to wear every day instead of frames that sit in a drawer after two weeks.
We also handle astigmatism, hyperopia, and presbyopia prescriptions with lens designs matched to the condition. If you've struggled with progressives before, our opticians will explain why and fit you with something that actually works.

Opticians in Nassau County FAQ
What is the difference between an optician and an optometrist?
An optometrist is a doctor who examines your eyes, diagnoses conditions, and writes prescriptions. An optician is a licensed professional who takes that prescription and helps you select frames, measures your face for a proper fit, and crafts your lenses. At Spectacular Eyewear, we have both under one roof.
Do I need an appointment to browse frames?
No. You can walk in during store hours and browse our full collection. Our opticians are available to help you try on frames and discuss lens options without an appointment.
How do I know which frames are right for my face?
Our opticians are trained to match frame shapes, sizes, and weights to your face structure, skin tone, and lifestyle. We take measurements and consider your prescription strength, which affects how your lenses sit in different frame styles. It's a hands-on process that works much better in person than online.
Do you carry frames for small or petite faces?
Yes. We carry one of the largest selections of petite eyeglasses on Long Island, including lightweight brands like Zero G and Silhouette. Standard frames don't work for everyone, and we specialize in fitting smaller faces properly.
How long does it take to get new glasses?
Most single vision prescriptions are ready within a few days. Progressive lenses and specialty orders may take one to two weeks depending on the lens type. We do all our edging in-house, which gives us faster turnaround and better quality control than shops that send everything out to a lab.
